School Attire:
Monroe is a Uniform School. Please refer to Monroe Uniform Policy for more information or feel free to contact school administration. During the year, the student body may earn Free Days. On those days, it is expected that students adhere to a dress code that is conducive to our educational environment. Students are expected to comply with the following:
• A student’s hairstyle, jewelry, and makeup should not distract others from learning.
• Skin-tight apparel, excessively baggy apparel, short shorts (above the fingertips when arms are at students’ sides), bare midriffs, mini skirts, and loose-fitting tank tops are not appropriate.
• Students must wear appropriate footwear at all times, including athletic shoes for PE.
• Although hats may be worn outdoors, students may not wear hats, hoods, or sunglasses in any classroom or indoor facility.
Gang Related Paraphernalia, Insignia, Apparel, and Colors:
Monroe prohibits students from wearing gang-related apparel and accessories and exchanging verbal and non-verbal gang expressions. Gang-related apparel and accessories and verbal and non-verbal expressions are defined as “having the purpose of intimidation and/or exhibiting affiliation with gangs.” They include, but are not limited to:
• Insignia, logos, symbols, and/or numeric references to gangs and their related behavior.
• Accessories, such as shoes, shoelaces, belts, hair ties, and bracelets, primarily in red, and blue that could give the appearance of gang affiliation.
• Lettering and acronyms associated with gangs.
• Other gang regalia known by school officials and/or local law enforcement to be associated with gangs.
