Our hearts go out to the families and staff involved in yesterday’s tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Florida. We hope and pray that nothing like that ever happens in our schools or community.  However, if it does, we are prepared.

We take safety very seriously, and practice our emergency response plans frequently. Our training in the Incident Command System (ICS) is one way in which do our best to protect students and ourselves. Our trainings include working directly with professional fire and police officials who use ICS for emergency response and communications.

We also partner with community health services to help our students and families who need support with social-emotional and other non-instructional issues.

A tragedy such as this reminds us to hug our loved ones a little tighter and appreciate each day a little more. Be well.

— District Superintendent Shelly Viramontez, Ed.D.

Dashboard is part of California’s new school accountability system

California has launched a new website designed to help communities across the state access important information about K-12 districts and schools. The California School Dashboard features easy-to- read reports on multiple measures of school success, including test scores, graduation rates, English learner progress and suspension rates.

An important note: The fact that 11 of our District’s 12 schools are Dependent Charter Schools caused an error in the Local Indicators section of the Dashboard reports. Each of our 12 schools has a rating of MET for Local Indicators. To see detailed information about the Local Indicators, select the Campbell Union School District dashboard.

The Dashboard is part of California’s new school accountability system based on 2013’s Local Control Funding Formula. It is the next step in a series of major shifts in public education that have raised the bar for student learning, transformed testing and placed the focus on equity for all students.

Safety is our top priority at Monroe. An important part of keeping students and staff safe is conducting drills for a variety of situations, including intruders on campus.

On Wed., Nov. 29th, at 10:30 am, we have the opportunity to work directly with the San Jose Police Department on a lock down drill. Officers and patrol cars will be on campus, making this drill far more noticeable than those we’ve done in the past.

We don’t want to you be unnecessarily alarmed. We do hope you’ll take the opportunity listen to your child’s questions, ask what he/she learned in the process, and discuss your own family’s plans in case of an emergency.
