Uniform Policy

Students at Monroe are expected to wear the school uniform, which consists of a collared shirt (solid colors: white, gray, or navy) and khaki bottoms (shorts, skirts, pants).

We believe that the use of uniforms helps us build a positive school climate, bridge the socio-economic differences between children, and promote positive student behavior.

Free-Dress/Spirit Days

Each month, there will be a Maverick Spirit Day scheduled.  Some of these will be specific, like Halloween costumes on the October Spirit Day; others will be days on which students can wear Maverick Spirit shirts, team uniforms, etc.  If they choose not to participate in the day’s theme, they may wear free dress on Spirit Days, as long as they follow the free-dress day guidelines.

In addition, individual students and whole grade-levels can earn free dress days through positive behavior and academic achievement.

At all times, students must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times
  • Clothing, hairstyles, jewelry, and make-up must not cause a distraction from learning
  • No skin-tight or excessively baggy apparel
  • Shorts and skirts must be longer than fingertips when arms are at students’ sides
  • No low-cut shirts
  • No bare midriffs or bra straps may be shown
  • No backless, strapless, spaghetti straps, or tank tops
  • No hats, hoods, or sunglasses worn indoors (students may wear these outdoors)
  • No references, real or implied, to sex, violence, or alcohol/drugs in either words or pictures
  • Clothing or insignia that is known by law enforcement to be gang related, including symbols and colors.

*MMS athletic jerseys or special school-related shirts may be worn over collared uniform shirts on game days or other specified days.

Students out of uniform will be sent to the office to change into loaner clothes, regardless of the time of day.

Additional Information:  Families for whom the purchase of uniforms is a hardship may request assistance in the front office.
