Enrichment

Monroe is proud to announce that we are again providing 7th and 8th grade students who qualify the opportunity to select year-long electives for the 2015-2016 school year.  Whereas exploratories in grades 5 and 6 last twelve weeks, these classes for 7th and 8th grade students will all last one full year. We believe that offering our upper grade students year-long electives will enhance students’ time at Monroe by allowing them more choice and a deeper understanding of their choice of study.  Electives are in most cases mixed grades.

It is important to note that these are year-long electives, and as such, it is Monroe’s expectation that students commit to something that genuinely interests them.  We ask that you select your top three choices, and we will do our best to ensure you receive one of those. In some cases, due to academic needs, certain students may not have the opportunity to select electives.  That being said, all of our students have the ability to join an elective should they exit academic support classes during the school year.

What follows are brief descriptions of the various course offerings Monroe expects to offer for 2015-2016.  As course offerings may change based upon enrollment projections, there may be some additions and subtractions to the list over the summer.  This list is not final. Additionally, certain classes require a teacher and/or Assistant Principal recommendation.  Without the recommendation, a student is not eligible to be in the class.  Please be sure to follow through.
