Spanish II

This course will reinforce the skills learned in Spanish 1. Emphasis will be on perfecting pronunciation, mastery of the basic grammatical structures, and acquisition of functional vocabulary. Students will develop their communication through interpersonal speaking and writing. The class will be conducted primarily in Spanish, and students are expected to use the language in class. Students will continue to learn about Hispanic countries through articles, video, group projects, computer activities, music, and games.

Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture

Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture This year long Spanish course is designed to develop and challenge students’ ability in speaking, reading, writing, listening, and culture development. Emphasis will be on acquiring Spanish literacy skills through selected Spanish literature, informational text, films, songs, and web resources. Students will develop Spanish reading skills using diverse literary genres such as myths, fables, legends, poetry, short stories, novels, and non-fiction.

STEAM

In addition to building basic computer skills, students will be introduced to various areas of technology using the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) model.  You will complete projects using Engineering processes, with opportunities to compete in a regional engineering competition.  Students will become experts in different computer applications as well as learn some basic programming skills and apply these to various projects.  Students must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively to complete assignments.

STEAM

Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, & Mathematics—is more than just the subjects in its name. It’s about blending those disciplines in ways that promote collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Through STEAM students discover meaningful, creative and innovative ways to expand and connect interdisciplinary learning through experimentation and imagination. This will help them apply their learning to succeed in real world settings.

Student Council

Student Council members are democratically elected class officers that help oversee campus events. MMS Student Council consists of four elected officers: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. Each homeroom class elects a representative to attend student council meetings. In addition to school concerns, this council is active in planning noon activities, 7th and 8th grade dance, and other special activities.

Technology Labs

Monroe Middle School boasts an impressive number of technology labs and equipment. Teachers and students have access to over a dozen class-sized carts of technology, including iPads, Macbook Airs and Chromebooks. These carts move between classrooms during breaks and passing periods, saving valuable instructional minutes and providing students a comfortable atmosphere for collaborative work. If you're looking for more traditional technology labs, check out Mrs. Eitner's tech class and attached broadcast studio where students record and stream daily announcements.

The Crew

The Crew is where middle school students can relax, listen to music, play video games, table games and receive homework help in a safe and fun place. Students have computer access, enjoy a daily snack, and participate in a variety of recreational activities, field trips, outdoor sporting events, movies & video games, games & tournaments, and much more!  Students participate in STEAM, Health and Fitness and Service Learning Clubs weekly as well.

Video Production & Broadcasting

Students will be trained in using the KMMS television studio and be responsible for the creation and production of the daily news broadcasts of morning announcements to MMS classrooms.  Students will be trained in broadcast journalism and digital photography.  Students will also be trained in troubleshooting tech issues and will be the first step in Monroe Tech Support.  Throughout the year students will use additional applications as needed and may work on other projects for the Monroe Community.  There is much responsibility and independence expected in this class.  Students participating
