On Friday, September 27, Monroe hosted the Fall Fun Friday. There were lots of activities and snacks such as a game truck, sports, Kona Ice, hot dogs, candy and much more. The photo booth was a big hit. Arianna C. shared, “I really enjoyed taking photos with my friends.” Another student, Tyler R. liked the variety of food. “I thought the options they had for the snacks were really good.”
Students also enjoyed playing volleyball in the gym. There were many people playing, and lots of other students joined, even if they had never played before.
The Fall Fun Friday had one of the highest number of students attending. According to Ms. Parrott, the Activities Director, there were 244 tickets sold which was almost 100 more than any other activity night or dance that Monroe has hosted. Students shared that they are excited to attend the next activity night in February.

Club Rush was held at lunch and students were able to meet club sponsors, ask questions and sign up. There were 14 clubs represented this time and many students came out to see them. "The turn out was great. There were so many students asking questions," shared Ms. Ida, the Monroe MTSS staff leader. Sixth grade student, Natalie C. liked the variety of clubs that were available. "There were so many cool clubs that I couldn't decide. I finally joined Ms. Wyrick's Muddy Buddy Garden Club."
Dean of Students, Laura Ochoa headed up this year's Club Rush. "This was the largest number and most diverse group of clubs that we have had so far. It's been exciting to see staff and community members step up and sponsor clubs." Clubs meet once a week at either lunch or after school. Students that want to join a club can talk to the club sponsor, Ms. Ochoa or Ms. Ida. A club list is posted on the bulletin board by the staff room.
As we continue through the school year, the safety of our students remains our top priority. Whether your child walks, rides, or drives to school, it’s important that we all work together to ensure they arrive and return home safely each day.
We kindly ask that all families take extra care when traveling near the school, especially in school zones. Please remember to follow the rules of the road, slow down in designated areas, and stay alert for students crossing streets and riding bikes. By doing so, we can create a safer environment for everyone in our community.
Thank you for your continued support in making our school a safe place for all. Together, we can ensure that each day starts and ends with the well-being of our students.
If Friday's pep rally is any indication, the Monroe school year is off to an exciting start. With the recent Olympics in Paris as inspiration, the theme of the pep rally was "Let the Games Begin." This all school event started with the traditional grade level cheers and included the expected 8th grade rumble. A video showed the Olympic "flame" and its journey from Dr. Viramontez's office to Monroe with Ms. Radle "lighting" the flame at the rally. The excitement continued with student vs. staff competitions with the students getting the slight edge. Both students and the Monroe staff were engaged and seemed to have great time. Monroe TOSA Brenda Rezzonico shared, "Thanks to all that planned and participated in the pep rally. What a great way to start off the school year." Indeed...Let the games begin!
This past year Monroe started its first cheer team. Headed by teacher, Desirey Madrid, the team consisted of 8 girls and a boy. They held practice two times a week and began performing at the girls' basketball games in October. Madrid was formerly the cheer coach at Del Mar and has used her experience to create excitement for Monroe's team. Her goal is to grow the program and possibly enter team competitions in the 24-25 school year.
