We’re raising funds for student scholarships to attend science camp.

LEARN. SIP. SUPPORT on Saturday, October 6 from 2 to 5 pm<http://www.waldenwestfoundation.org/docs/learn-sip-support.pdf> because all students deserve an opportunity, regardless of their zip code or family income, to attend science camp. It increases academic performance, builds important life skills, provides the kind of hands-on learning students can’t get in the classroom, exposes students to life sciences and importantly, it gives kids a break from technology.

Won’t you join the Walden West Foundation<http://www.waldenwestfoundation.org/> at the award-winning Walden West Outdoor Science School<https://www.sccoe.org/news/NR/Pages/Walden-West-honored-for-service-to-Bay-Area-families.aspx> and, share this flyer and message with staff, parents, family and friends? There will be live music by the Randy Sauro Band, local wines from Baccarossa, Kathryn Kennedy, Maison Areion, and Meniketti, delightful lite bites prepared by Spikes Bites and tours of our beautiful 35-acre campus.

Be inspired by student stories and participate in a silent auction - a night at the Saratoga Inn with a bottle of sparkling wine, Warriors tickets, fine art, a surf lesson and MANY MORE! All proceeds go towards the Walden West student scholarship fund and campus improvements.

We look forward to seeing you at the event! Please follow us on Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/waldenwestfound> for videos, photos and updated information throughout the year.

At Monroe Middle, we take safety very seriously, and practice our emergency response plans frequently. This morning, we had a 4-minute shelter-in-place activity, not planned, as police officers handled a matter in the neighborhood.
Our regular collaboration with San Jose PD and San Jose Safe School Campus Liaison Unit provided us with direct and timely notification before and after the shelter-in-place. Everything went smoothly; the students were safe; and it ended very quickly.

A Message from Superintendent Shelly Viramontez

The recent events in Charlottesville and other divisive and hate-filled exchanges remind us of the importance of creating an inclusive and caring environment for our students, families and the surrounding community.

Building positive relationships is a key value for us in Campbell Union School District. In fact, preparing our students for successful futures requires that we teach them to be inclusive and to create positive relationships despite perceived differences.

We demonstrate that value through our commitment to inclusion, our intolerance of harassment and bullying of any kind, and our efforts to maintain positive learning environments for everyone in our schools.

In this way, we create:

  • Better decisions through inclusiveness. We encourage inclusiveness in our decision-making, and benefit from the diverse perspectives of our many advisory committee members;
  • Greater tolerance and respect for each other. Our employees and students represent diverse ethnicities, languages, and cultures, which we acknowledge as we celebrate what we have in common.
  • Effective and enduring education for students. The collaboration between our special education and general education staff as they help children gain the skills they will need for success in their lives beyond school.

Celebrating and respecting our diversity is essential to our charge of developing in our young students the empathy, compassion and other skills and knowledge they will need to meet the demands of their future – to ensure they are prepared for the challenges of college and career.  It is an awesome responsibility that we take very seriously.

“Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together.”
