Spanish
While emphasizing the Common Core curriculum, Spanish at Monroe Middle School encourages students to make connections with a different culture and take ownership of their education through the development of vocabulary and written and verbal skills in a second language.
Spanish I
This is an introductory class stressing basic language skills and acquisition within a cultural context, including an introduction to the grammar and practical vocabulary necessary for fundamental communication skills. Emphasis will be on the acquisition of four skills: listening, speaking, reading and limited writing. Projects, games, music, videos, and technology tools are incorporated in the curriculum in order to lessons more interactive.
Spanish II
This course will reinforce the skills learned in Spanish 1. Emphasis will be on perfecting pronunciation, mastery of the basic grammatical structures, and acquisition of functional vocabulary. Students will develop their communication through interpersonal speaking and writing. The class will be conducted primarily in Spanish, and students are expected to use the language in class. Students will continue to learn about Hispanic countries through articles, video, group projects, computer activities, music, and games.
Special Education
Monroe Middle School has a number of programs and staff dedicated to providing support to all students, including Special Day Classes (SDC) and Resource Specialist Programs (RSP).

Monroe Middle School is committed to providing the resources and tools to make sure every student achieves at the highest levels. These specialized instruction programs ensure that all students are guaranteed an education that's truly beyond the expected.
STEAM
Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, & Mathematics—is more than just the subjects in its name. It’s about blending those disciplines in ways that promote collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creative problem solving. Through STEAM students discover meaningful, creative and innovative ways to expand and connect interdisciplinary learning through experimentation and imagination. This will help them apply their learning to succeed in real world settings.
STEAM
In addition to building basic computer skills, students will be introduced to various areas of technology using the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) model. You will complete projects using Engineering processes, with opportunities to compete in a regional engineering competition. Students will become experts in different computer applications as well as learn some basic programming skills and apply these to various projects. Students must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively to complete assignments.

Student Services
Monroe Middle School Counseling Department offers a comprehensive counseling program to all students that includes academic, social/emotional, and college/career support. We believe that all students can reach their full potential. The counseling program focuses on the development of students and achieving a balanced Middle School experience.
Technology
Monroe Middle School is a web to one school site. This means that as a student at Monore Middle School you have a Chromebook that is issued to you and yours to use at school as well as take home to continue your learning.

In collaboration with the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Monroe Middle School runs a student wellness center five days a week from the hours of 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

- A calming and quiet space if you are looking to self-regulate using specific tools in designated areas.
- A safe place to decompress and an opportunity to talk with a safe adult on campus.
- A student resource center if you wish to receive information and connection to specific wellness-related supports.
