Physical Education

Students spend a lot of time in classrooms at school but getting outside and being active is just as important. Physical Education is mandated by the State of California. Students in elementary school are required to have 200 minutes of Physical Education every 10 days and 400 minutes in Middle School. Physical education is a combination of structured activities and lessons on nutrition and healthy living. Depending on the teacher or the provider, students participate in a variety of sports, dancing, calisthenics, and other activities to get them up and moving.

Science

Exciting changes are coming in science as we implement the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). California has adopted a new set of standards which focus on disciplinary core ideas taught using performance expectations which will shift science instruction to a much more hands-on, project based learning approach.

Our schools have established engaging STEAM education lessons for students, and have begun incorporating design thinking into the educational experiences.

Social Studies

globe

State Standards for history/social studies require students to read, write, speak, listen, and use language effectively as well as develop literacy skills through literature and more complex informational texts. Emphasis is placed on developing civic awareness and responsibility, understanding global relationships, making connections between the past, present, and future, and the ability to evaluate historical and contemporary issues.
