Monroe Middle School

8th Graders

End of Year Communication

Grade Checks
Grades close for 8th-grade students on June 1st.  This will allow teachers to finalize grades and for Ms. Flores and me to review student eligibility to participate in the end-of-year 8th-grade events.

Promotion Dance/Party: June 3rd
The dance/party is on Friday, June 3rd from 5 PM to 7 PM.  Students only need to bring their permission slips.  There is no cost for this event.  Food will be served in the cafeteria and students will eat and dance outside. If your student is eligible for the dance they will get the permission slip during their 6th-period class on June 2nd.

Great America: June 8th
Eligible 8th graders who have returned their permission slip and payment for the trip will get on the buses at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 8th.  The buses will return to Monroe Middle School at approximately 5:30 PM.  Please be sure your student has a plan on how to get home after the trip.  Also, Great America does not accept cash.  Students can get cards they load money on when they arrive at Great America.

Promotion Practice
We are practicing for the ceremony on Tuesday, June 7th, and Thursday, June 9th in the mornings.  We will review expectations with them during these practices.

Promotion Ceremony: June 10th
On Friday, starting at 8:30 AM 8th graders and their families can come onto campus through the middle back gates.  The ceremony will begin at 9 AM sharp.  Guest seating is first come first serve and we ask that you do not save seats for guests and arrive with your whole party.  Students will report to the 6th blacktop area.  After the ceremony, your student will go home with their family.  8th-grade students do not attend classes on Friday.

For the ceremony, student attire must follow our school dress code.  Students do wear dressier clothes for the ceremony.  Students should wear comfortable shoes or shoes that they have worn before to ensure they are able to walk across the stage safely.

The following items are also NOT allowed:

  • Noisemakers/Horns
  • Shaving cream/whipped cream
  • Any other items that could distract from the ceremony
  • Any items that block the view of others during the ceremony (for example large signs or balloon arrangements)

If you have flowers, balloons, or other large gifts for your 8th-grade student please need to keep them until after the ceremony.  Leis or other decorative neck gifts are allowed.
